Treatment Methods

TBM Technique

Common conditions that respond to Total Body Modification Technique.

It is most effective for treating those winter, virus's, bacteria's and Influenza's that plague us each year. Also helful with many other problems including allergies, glandular fever, chronic fatigue, colds, sinus. These problems respond well with this technique: bronchitis, stomach ulcers, colitis, could be your health challengers, then TBM is a technique that you may find very helpful.

Testing for problems areas

TBM (Total Body Modification Technique) is a combination of testing systems to check the organs of the body. By using specific contact points -like acupuncture points- externally, we can then make corrections to the body using advanced Chiropractic methods that will improve many health conditions. These "dysfunctions" (health issues') appear as "short circuits"-or weakness- as we check, and test: Then we retest, checking for improvement and changes to the body with this technique.

The chiropractor uses a piece of equipment called an activator to do the manipulation to the points. It is a very gentle treatment and you will wonder why you have put off visiting a chiropractor. This technique is so gentle it can be used in new-borns, children, adults, and the seniors.

Neuroemotional Technique

The effects of STRESS upon our bodies

This technique has proved very successful and is useful with that bothersome reoccurring health problem that seems to only improve for a short period - even when treated. This reocurring problem is often caused by stress. Stresses can create havoc affecting our health in many ways, often chronic ongoing health issues will develop from stress alone. -ie indigestion, asthma, colitis to name a few.

Stress comes from situations we are out of control of.

Some examples.

  • bad relationships -bad marriage - inlaws - workplace.
  • chronic health issues - that become exhausting
  • incest, loss of a loved ones, anger, resentment, low self esteem, the list can go on forever.

Suppressed negative and harmful emotions, will increase our stress levels and eventually we will suffer ongoing (chronic) illness. This method has proved very effective for those hard to treat problems.

Cranio-Sacral Technique

What can be expected in the treatment?

Firstly, it is extremely gentle. Children love this technique. The weight of a 10 cent coin - 5 grams - is the pressure used to achieve results and this will improve conditions.

How can this change things?

Lets explain. If you pull a seat belt out quickly and firmly it will resist and lock BUT if you ever so gently pull it out, it will extend to its maximum.

The same with the body. If you ever so gently –5grams- move a bone or joint you will beat the resistance mechanism, the joint and ligament will not resist, and change can be created. So the aim is to create NORMAL FUNCTION in the body, and the body will set about and regulate itself, symptoms will start to reduce quite quickly.

Craniosacral balancing is a form of hands-on body work. There has usually been some assault to the head or neck i.e., whiplash accidents, physical violence, birth traumas with foetal distress- forceps deliveries- suction- emergency caesarean. Within in the head the primary nervous system develops– first the brain-,this then extends and becomes the spinal cord, finishing at the tailbone. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flows up and down within these membranes inside the skeleton and headbones(cranial). It bathes and nourishes your brain and nervous system. This wave like rhythm can be felt all over the body just like breathing and heartbeat.

The CFS pulses at about 10-12 cycles a minute - we call this the craniosacral rhythm. This vital system affects the performance of the BRAIN and SPINAL CORD this imbalance can potentially cause any number of problems.

Chronic problems can be relieved by this technique while releasing any left over effects of past injuries and emotional traumas. You will find you’ll be able to deeply relax. Some symptoms experienced maybe mild, others quite severe.

Conditions frequently treated

Learning Difficulties -

Dyslexia (jumbled letters)
Dyscalcia(poor maths)
Chronic Back pain, - Disc fusions, Scoliosis, Harrington Rods.
Brain Traumas and Spinal Injuries - accidents and whiplash.
Eye difficulties - poor reading, cross eyed, poor eye control.
Jaw clicking, cannot open jaw, bite problems, grinding teeth.
Ears. Frequent infections, poor hearing Tinnitus, (not Industrial) Vertigo.
Traumatic Births - Inductions, emergency caesarean, forceps deliveries.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.
ADH Children - with behavioural problems.

What do they all have in common?

The brain,
The bones of the scull
The spinal cord
The skeleton
.... are all involved

So starting to "free up" movement in the head bones (cranial bones) - changes will begin and conditions will reduce. As I said previously children love this technique, and a lot of this work is done for them. Hear is an interesting link with more information.

This is one of the most gentle of all techniques, with this method new born infants can be treated within hours of birth with absolute safety. Children actually love these treatments. It is just as suitable for the elderly, even the very elderly 80-90 year age group. The treatment involves the use of a hand held tool called an activator. With this we can control movement to a minimum of 1millimeter if needed. Patients often have no sense of "manipulation" or vertebral adjustment at all. This is why it is popular with the young and the elderly.

Below is an activator - how it is used with patients.

One case history

I remember treating one infant in particular, a young mum came to the clinic in desperation her 4 months old infant had been projectile vomiting since birth - but still putting on weight. She was desperate, the baby was crying the whole night long with colic hour after hour. Was there ANY thing I could do. I gently felt the infants tiny spine and it winched in the dorsal region - between the shoulder blades - . With the Activator I treated the tender area with a millimeter adjustment, the baby stayed asleep. Again I palpated the spine, the tenderness had gone. That day baby slept the first time through a feed, it slept 10 hours straight !! Next visit we found that most of the vomiting had settled, a few more treatments and things were on track. Results like this really make our day!! It is so rewarding.

Sacro-Occipital Technique

Common conditions that respond well

The acute lower back pain - where it so painful that you can't get up out of bed or even walk, this is the worst of the back pains, or the rhy neck (torticollis) where you are "frozen" in the neck from the shoulders up you have to turn your waist to turn your head.

This technique is another of the more gently methods. For the patient, it is a passive technique where they lie down and vinyl wedges are placed under the pelvic. As you lie there resting the wedges are gently stretching the painful ligaments and muscles, and usually within 10-15 minutes the agony will have stopped or reduced markedly. These consultations are usually long visits, as we allowing the body weight to help stretch the inflamed region.

Also children love this treatment method because there is no sense of a manipulation with it. It is just as suitable for the elderly, even the very elderly 80-90 year age group.

Some further information for the analytical people.

There are 3 categories or 3 ways chiropractors make an "adjustment" to help correct a painful back.

Category I

refers to fixation (restriction) of the Lumber sacrum region as they inter react with each other this is known as the sacro-iliac boot mechanism, this in turn effect important nerve pathways that regulate the pelvic area. If the pelvic region changes all the spinal vertabra and muscles balanced above it are effected.

Category II

this usually involves a tear, sprain or strain of the ligaments around the sacro iliac joint, usually from heavy lifting with rotation ie moving heavy pot plants, lifting lawn mowers etc and patients usually present complaining of a tearing pain in the groin. Injuries have to do with dysfunctions of the weight-bearing parts of the sacro iliac joints.

Category III

involves the vertebral discs (prolapses and hernia's) and their blood supply. This is the most painful of all back conditions. Patients cannot stand without twisting, they usually hobbly along in acute pain. SOT has special procedures for the care of these patients. It is both effective and safe.
